When you want to get people in the right mood — whether it’s for dancing, making memories, or bidding on auction items — a live band can help. But not all bands are suited for performing at charity events or corporate parties. Follow these tips to find the right band for your big event.

Why Your Event Needs Live Music

Perhaps you’re wondering why have a band at your next event. Couldn’t you play an iPod or CD instead?

If you’re trying to create a special atmosphere or mood, music is a very effective way to evoke it. Live bands offer aural and visual entertainment while helping guests relax, unwind, and have fun. This can translate to increased donations or more interest in your business event, directly benefiting your bottom line.

How to Find the Right Band for Your Business or Charity Event

Narrow down potential groups by considering your audience. Who will be attending your event? What is their median age or other important demographic? While not everyone in the audience will have the same taste in music, different genres lend themselves to different age groups. A hip-hop artist won’t impress the over-65 demographic, for instance.

If you’re unsure where to start looking, ask around. Friends or family members may know of a great local band to ask. Look online or go on Facebook to find bands near you. Most bands have clips online, so you will be able to preview their music and determine whether it’s something that would appeal to your target audience. Keep searching until you find a band with a great sound, then see if they’re available and fit your budget.

To have the widest range of entertainment options, if possible, start your search at least 6 months in advance of the event. Most professional bands book their calendars a minimum of 6-12 months in advance.
